On March 11, 2016, officers from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service visited Booker Academy in Mumias, Kakamega County, where the Placement Service had been invited for a career fair. The main aim of the career fair was to create awareness on the services offered by the Placement Service to students.
We arrived at the school at 9 a.m. and were warmly welcomed by the school administration. The institution had also invited other schools from the area and they turned up in large numbers. At 10 a.m., the school principal officially opened the forum, welcoming all guests.
The CEO of the Placement Service, Mr. John Muraguri, offered a brief background of the State agency. He explained the application process for placement as a government-sponsored student. The CEO guided the students on various courses and their requirements. He also explained performance index as used in determining placement.
Students showed a keen interest on various issues relating to the placement of government-sponsored students to universities and colleges. Specifically, they asked questions about the placement procedure and subject requirement for various courses, and were adequately answered.
Officers from other institutions who were present were given a chance to talk to the students and make presentations. The forum ended at 4 p.m.
