The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service on Monday and Tuesday hosted a delegation from the National Commission for Higher Education (NCHE), Malawi who have been in Kenya on a benchmarking tour.
The NCHE officials were accompanied by members of Mzuzu University, University of Malawi and Lilongwe University of Agriculture & NRM for the two-day visit, whose objective was to benchmark a central student placement system with the Kenyan Placement Service.
The visitors were received on Monday, October 10, 2016 by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John Muraguri. The CEO introduced the team to the Placement Service and gave a historical background of central placement in Kenya.
During the two-day visit, a Placement Service team comprising ICT and placement officers and led by the CEO, highlighted the importance of a central placement system. The Kenyan team also demonstrated the online application and placement process employed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service.
The Malawian delegation also learnt how the entire automated student selection system works and how it was developed; and the linkages between student placement and the Government of Kenya’s student loan scheme run by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
Impressed by the level of automation of the Kenyan student selection process, the visitors expressed their desire to work with the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service to help them to develop a similar system for their country. They resolved to continue consulting and working with the Kenyan Placement Service until their country develops an online system for student placement.
