Education Cabinet Secretary Announces Results of 2025 Placement of Students to Universities and Colleges

Cabinet Secretary for Education, Mr. Julius Migos Ogamba accompanied by Ministry of Education officials including Principal Secretaries Dr. Beatrice Inyangala (State Department for Higher Education and Research) and Dr. Julius Bitok (State Department for Basic Education), KUCCPS Board Chairperson Mr. Cyrus Gituai, and KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, among others, announced completion of the placement process for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination cohort and other Form Four leavers to universities and colleges. He made the announcement while addressing a media briefing on July 1, 2025 at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Nairobi.

Highlights of his remarks

  • For the first time, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) adopted a phased placement process. The first phase targeted students seeking placement opportunities at KMTC, TVET and KSL for the March 2025 and May 2025 intakes. The second phase applications was for placement to Universities and TTC for the September 2025 intake.
  • There were 986,137 placement openings for this year, enough to absorb all students who sat the KCSE examination in 2024 (965,501) and even in the previous years.
  • A total of 244,563 Kenyan citizen qualified for degree programmes in the 2024 KCSE examination and 201,695 (83%) of them applied to KUCCPS for placement to various levels. Among these, a total of 194,372 (80%) have been placed to programmes at various levels.
  • Overall, KUCCPS has placed a total of 310,502 students to various programmes in universities and colleges this year, so far. Applications for placement to Kenya Medical College (KMTC), Technical and Vocational Education and Training and the Open University of Kenya are continual. KUCCPS has opened the second round of application for KMTC September 2025 intake.
  • The Government continued to expand available options for Kenyan students seeking higher education opportunities. The Government has established two additional public university colleges (Kabarnet University College and Nyandarua University College), more KMTC campuses, the newest being the West Pokot campus; and new Teacher Training Colleges in Northern Kenya.
  • The Ministry of Education is grateful to Parliament for allocating Kshs. 500 million to enable the disbursement of loans to KMTC students through the Higher Education Loans Board. Students are encouraged to apply.
