KUCCPS and Universities Seek to Strengthen Student Placement and Career Guidance

Nairobi, June 15, 2026 – Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has concluded a successful three-day consultative forum aimed at strengthening stakeholder collaboration, enhancing student placement processes, and promoting equitable access to higher education in Kenya.

The high-level engagement, held from June 10th to 12th, 2026 at Machakos University in Machakos County, brought together Academic Registrars, Heads of Admissions, and Heads of Finance from public and private universities across the country.

Speaking during the forum, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, emphasised the importance of continuous engagement among stakeholders and encouraged participants to use the forum as an opportunity to deliberate on emerging issues affecting
university education, admissions, student placement and institutional operations.

Dr. Wahome underscored the importance of universities embracing market-driven programmes that respond to evolving labour market demands.

She further noted that consultations on placement of learners under the University Competency-Based Education Framework (UCBEF) were ongoing, and urged institutions to prepare for the transition.

Recognising the critical role of career guidance in informed career selection, Dr. Wahome commended universities for supporting KUCCPS during student application and outreach activities.

She encouraged them to strengthen engagement with learners through career open days and the offices of career services that have been established in universities to provide career guidance and help students to explore career options and prepare for opportunities in the job market.

She reiterated that KUCCPS was committed to providing necessary support to the initiatives. The forum provided an important platform for participants to share experiences, best practices and recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency, transparency and credibility of student placement and admissions processes. Discussions also focused on strengthening institutional collaboration as a key strategy for addressing emerging challenges in university education and student placement.
