Placement Process

To log in to the Student’s Portal, you need your correct KCSE index number, KCSE examination year and a password. The password is either your KCPE index number or birth certificate number. The login page (students.kuccps.net) is accessible via the KUCCPS website www.kuccps.net or the KUCCPS Students App.

Weighted cluster points are a KCSE examination graduate’s computed performance in four subjects required for admission to a given degree programme against that of the best candidates in the particular KCSE examination year. It is based on cluster subject requirements and the overall performance of a candidate. The points are computed to three decimal places to reduce chances of applicants tying on points. Cut-off points are the weighted cluster points of the last competitively placed student in a given degree programme.

You are advised not to attempt to calculate your cluster points as doing so would result in incorrect points. Instead, you should check your respective weighted cluster points as readily computed and provided in your KUCCPS portal.

KUCCPS is able to calculate your cluster points through the automated placement system after obtaining KCSE examination performance data, including performance indices (PI) for each student, from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC). Individual secondary school graduates are not provided with the PI, hence cannot calculate their weighted cluster points.

Currently, non-Kenyan citizens are only eligible for placement to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education programmes.

Revision of choices is the process whereby students who have applied for courses in universities and colleges through the KUCCPS portal but missed select and apply for other courses in other institutions.

One can apply for a maximum of six degree courses and up to four for diploma, certificate and artisan programmes.

KUCCPS advertises placement application and provides information through print and electronic media.

The fee is Ksh 1,500. For revision of choices, you will use the same transaction code.

Wrong payments are reversed once an applicant sends a request providing the transaction details. Reversals may take up to seven days.

Check the Student’s Portal for the information. Additionally, applicants are informed through SMS to the contacts they provided during application.

Such candidates are only eligible to apply for certificate or diploma programmes offered in TVET institutions and Open University.

The seven best-performed subjects examined by KNEC are considered in the calculation of applicants’ weighted cluster points.

The information is available on the Student’s Portal under the “Programmes” and “Downloads” tabs.

The placement of students is based on KCSE examination grades only.

You will be able to submit your application, but  securing a course is a competitive process determined by the qualifications of all the applicants and the number of available vacancies in the programme.

The results of placement process are released at the end of placement processing when all revisions have been done. The exact dates are communicated through official communication channels.

The respective institutions where students have been placed are responsible for issuing admission letters and other joining instructions.

KUCCPS also places students to private universities. Students placed to private universities are eligible for government loans only. The full list of all eligible institutions are available on the Student’s Portal.

That is not possible. Placement to degree programmes is meant for eligible fresh secondary school graduates (those who did the KCSE examination in the immediate year preceding the selection). However, you can apply for TVET courses.

Inter-Institutional Transfer

This is an opportunity given to successful applicants to apply to be transferred from one institution to another. The transfer processing fee is Ksh 1,000.

The system opens for a specific period after the release of placement results. Keep checking the KUCCPS website and official social media pages for updates.

An applicant must satisfy the minimum requirements for the programme they wish to change to (where applicable). The applicant must also meet the cut-off points for the specific programme in their desired institution. Additionally, the heads of the institutions must endorse the transfer application.

Intra-Institutional Transfer

Many institutions allow intra-institutional (inter-faculty) transfers for admitted students but applicants must meet the minimum subject requirements for the desired courses and the cut-off point for the courses in the particular institution.

Intra-faculty transfers are undertaken within the concerned institutions without the involvement of KUCCPS. However, the institutions are required to observe the applicable programme cut-off points.

Career Guidance

To invite KUCCPS for a career event in your institution, send an official invitation at least three weeks to the event. The Placement Service offers career guidance free of charge.

Government Funding to Students
  • First, students apply to KUCCPS for placement to their desired institutions and programmes.

  • After placement, students who require financial support apply for funding through the Higher Education Funding Application Portal www.hef.co.ke.

  • Beginning with the 2022 cohort, students joining public universities and public TVET institutes are eligible for the government loan (HELB) and scholarship, while those joining private universities are eligible for the loan only.

  • Students admitted before 2022 are funded under the old funding model.
