Joint working retreat

KUCCPS and funding agencies to collaborate for enhanced public outreach

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will collaborate with higher education funding agencies to achieve enhanced public sensitisation.

KUCCPS, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the Universities Fund (UF), are developing a framework that will guide their joint efforts in public outreach and sensitisation.

Officers from the three agencies, which are under the Ministry of Education, held a three-day joint working retreat in November 2025 to develop the framework.

The goal of the engagement was to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), work plan and Monitoring and Evaluation framework for coordinated communication and outreach in the areas of career guidance, student placement, and higher education financing.

The discussions built on earlier consultations between HELB and KUCCPS on a joint outreach and sensitisation programme that has been expanded to include the Universities Fund for a more holistic approach to student support, from career choice to placement and financing.

The retreat focused on enhancing efficiency, improving public awareness, and streamlining service delivery to better support students, parents/guardians, educators, and other stakeholders across Kenya’s higher education system.

KUCCPS is mandated to coordinate placement of students to universities and colleges, develop career guidance programmes for the benefit of students, disseminate information on available programmes, their costs and the areas of study prioritized by the government, among other functions.

Universities Fund was established to apportion funds to universities, mobilise and receive funds for financing university education and develop a transparent and a fair criterion for allocation of funds, among other functions.

HELB is mandated to source for funds to finance Kenyans pursuing higher education; disburse loans and bursaries to needy Kenyan students pursuing higher education, and recover outstanding university loans given to Kenyan students among other functions.
