KUCCPS Participates in NCPWD Disability Mainstreaming Workshop
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), through its Disability Inclusion Committee, took part in a three-day Disability Mainstreaming Workshop convened by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) at Lake Naivasha Resort from November 4 to 6, 2025.
The workshop brought together representatives from Government agencies, universities, TVET institutions, and disability advocacy groups to discuss strategies for strengthening inclusive education, equitable access, and improved public service delivery for persons with disabilities. A key highlight was the review of the transformative Persons with Disabilities Act, 2025, recently signed into law by H.E. President Dr. William Ruto.
Participants received in-depth guidance on the new Act, which enhances accessibility standards, reinforces institutional accountability, and empowers NCPWD to investigate and take legal action on accessibility violations across both public and private sectors. The Act also strengthens enforcement of the mandatory 5% representation of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in appointive and elective positions.
The workshop provided a platform for institutions to share ongoing disability mainstreaming initiatives, exchange best practices, and identify opportunities for collaboration. KUCCPS staff gained valuable insights that will support the organisation’s commitment to delivering inclusive services in student placement, career guidance, and stakeholder engagement.
NCPWD encouraged all institutions to align their programmes with the new policy framework and intensify efforts to build a more inclusive public service. The retreat concluded with a renewed pledge by participating organisations to ensure that no person living with a disability is left behind.
