The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is a distinguished partner in the 95th Kenya National Music Festival taking place at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri County.
As a partner and sponsor, KUCCPS is utilising the music festival as a platform to undertake one of its core functions, which is to disseminate information on training opportunities in universities, tertiary colleges and technical and vocational training institutions.
“Music is a universal language and there is no more effective way to give information and guidance to students than through song and dance,” remarked KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome.
KUCCPS is also mandated to coordinate the placement of students to institutions of higher learning, develop career guidance programmes for the benefit of students, and collate and collect data relating to student placement, among other functions.
In recognition of KUCCPS’ role, a special category on KUCCPS was included in the 2023 music festival, where primary schools were required to come up with special compositions highlighting the role of KUCCPS in career development.
In the opening week, a number of schools presented winning items in this category. They include St. Joseph Kinango Primary School, Mombasa, whose shairi titled Mwangaza shone light on the KUCCPS mandate of student placement to institutions of higher education. In the same category, Kangema Primary School performed a choral verse entitled Buffet, which also expounded on the services offered by the organisation.
The other schools that performed items under the KUCCPS category include Chogoria Girls Boarding (Eastern Region), Nyali School (Coast), High Peak Primary, Naivasha (Rift Valley), Arya Primary (Nyanza), Chakol Girls Primary, Busia (Western) and Moi Forces Academy (Nairobi).
The KUCCPS sponsorship for the festival covers trophies, certificates and branding, among other items. KUCCPS will have the honour of awarding the winning items.
The music festival, which commenced on August 11, will end on August 23.
